Harrison LLP welcomes two partners, Dean C. Marcus and Lana Hompluem Lane. Dean Marcus joins as a partner in the Washington, DC office with a focus on corporate and business law, family office services, family business advice, and real estate services. Lana Hompluem Lane joins as a partner in the St. Louis office with extensive experience in estate, gift, and wealth transfer planning, business succession, and charitable giving, and a focus on retirement benefits planning.
Dean has over two decades of experience in corporate legal affairs, including complex contract negotiations, business strategy, and compliance. With a solid foundation in financial solutions and regulatory frameworks, he works to ensure the integrity and legal fortitude of business operations.
He enjoys reaching past the basic legal aspects of corporate structures and contracts to really get involved in business strategy so that he can help set up business ventures for the greatest successes while also minimizing risk. He values a collaborative and solutions-oriented approach, while trying to think “outside the box” as often as possible.
Dean earned his J.D. from the University of Richmond School of Law and a B.A. from Gettysburg College. He has held leadership roles, including Chair of the Judiciary Committee of the Richmond Bar Association and past president of the Richmond Criminal Bar Association.
Lana Hompluem Lane specializes in representing individuals in sophisticated estate, gift, and wealth transfer planning, closely-held business succession planning, and charitable giving. A key focus of her practice is her expertise in estate planning for retirement benefits, including strategies for optimizing required minimum distributions while minimizing tax consequences for current and future generations.
Lana advises clients in all aspects of wealth transfer planning through the creation of wills, revocable trusts, irrevocable trusts (such as irrevocable insurance trusts, intentionally defective grantor trusts, qualified personal residence trusts, and grantor retained annuity trusts), installment sale transactions to grantor trusts, and the use of lifetime gifting to individuals and charities. Lana also assists clients with post-death administration matters, including advising on the proper funding, taxation, distribution, and continued administration of trusts and estates. She regularly works with family offices, investment advisors, and accountants to ensure that each plan reflects the current legal landscape and the long-term goals of the client’s family.
Lana is an active member of the St. Louis trusts and estates community and enjoys working closely with other estate planning professionals. She is a graduate of the Heart of America Fellows Institute of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel.
Lana earned her J.D from the University of Chicago and a B.A. from Washington University. She is admitted in both Missouri and Illinois and is a member of the Missouri Bar Association and the Illinois Bar Association.
