Michael A. Haber has been a preeminent attorney in the Chicago and North Shore area for over 45 years. Mr. Haber began as a sole practitioner and grew his practice into a successful boutique litigation firm with several associate attorneys. In 2006 he merged with Michael W. Kalcheim to establish Kalcheim Haber LLC. Mr. Haber concentrates his practice in representing individuals, families, and companies through wide ranging legal problems. While concentrating in family law (including allocation of parental rights and responsibilities, parentage, dissolution of marriage and pre and postnuptial agreements), Michael also represents clients in both commercial and civil litigation, commercial and residential real estate, and corporate transactional work. Mr. Haber’s varied practice enables him to bring his particular knowledge to the multiple areas of law often confronted in complex matrimonial proceedings and estate planning. Mr. Haber has extensive experience dealing with multiple complex issues often confronted in matrimonial litigation, including the valuation and distribution of stock options, restricted stock awards, executive compensation and valuation of closely held businesses, such as hedge fund investment companies.
The personal attention Michael affords every case allows clients to feel relaxed and secure in his representation and also lends itself to his mediation work. As a certified mediator, Mr. Haber has worked successfully countless times to resolve issues between parties outside of the courtroom. His collaborative and creative process helps clients find workable, and often unique, solutions to their legal disputes to all parties’ satisfaction.
Mr. Haber is a seasoned professional who values integrity and tenacity in his work. He is dedicated to providing effective, proactive representation for all of his clients and believes in going the extra mile for his clients.
Mr. Haber’s community and civic experience enhances his practice and provides a unique perspective allowing him to better serve his clients. Mr. Haber is a retired Board member of a local community bank and served as an elected Trustee in the Village of Riverwoods for over 30 years.
Mr. Haber is married, has three children, and two grandchildren.

Successfully appealed the Court’s retroactive vacatur of a preliminary injunction in a hotly contested divorce proceeding enjoining the Petitioner from dissipating and transferring martial funds.
In Re Marriage of Charous, 2006
Successfully litigated before the Second District of Illinois Appellate Court in a case regarding the enforcement of visitation and visitation abuse.
Vasquez v. Rodriguez, 2006
Successfully defended a foster child in a hotly contested case against multiple claims protecting her interest in real estate transferred to her by her foster father.

In a case of first impression successfully argued that in determining support and maintenance income averaging was appropriate where the court found that income from employment at a family-owned business was manipulated.
In Re Marriage of Bator-Smith, 1995
Secured custody for a maternal uncle and a multi-million-dollar judgment in favor of two minor children in divorce case after husband was found guilty of murdering his estranged wife.
