Trusts & Estates Partner, Kim Martin will be a presenter in FOCUS (Families of Children Under Stress) 36th Annual Education Conference.
Kim will be presenting on, “Estate Planning For A Child With A Disability: Beyond the Basics.”
As parents, we want to ensure that our children are cared for in every possible way. Planning for the long-term care of a child with a disability is uniquely challenging. In this workshop, we will review the means test that applies to many state and federal benefits such as SSI and Medicaid, discuss the type of special needs trust that allows parents to set aside assets for their child without endangering the child’s eligibility for those benefits, and talk about specific trust provisions that should be included to address housing, inherited IRAs, and more.
The FOCUS Conference is an opportunity for parents to learn about various topics specific to their journey as parents of children with disabilities. Parents enjoy lunch, connecting with others and meeting local exhibitors.
